Is the "Big Yellow Bag", Lauren?

I completed the paintings for decarli's restaurant and took them in last Wednesday. 
No, I didn't take pictures...but I will and post them in the future! 

Here's an interesting story!

I painted the "Big Yellow Bag"  about three years ago for Paradise Perks, an espresso shop, in Irvine, California.

About a month ago a woman named Carol went into Paradise Perks, saw my painting and immediately thought of her granddaughter, Lauren. She emailed me with a picture of Lauren and asked if the painting was of her. 

 

Lauren used to work at Paradise Perks. 

See the resemblance?

I, however, painted "Big Yellow Bag" based off of a picture I took in Portland, Oregon.


It couldn't be Lauren, she was down in Irvine, California! 

But wait! She transferred to  Portland State University. 

Sooooo, is it her??

Can I Do It ?????

I have been given, by dicarli restaurant, the opportunity to display my artwork.
I said, "Great! I will give you three 36"x 48" cityscapes" (which I just started) "by June!"

Can I do it?

Of course!

Well...........

Painting with my left hand is getting so much easier! 
I used this-

any time I wanted even a semi-straight line. I was too wobbly and shaky before. (Not until I was making this post did I realize that I didn't use it once! :) )

An excellent artist, Terry Miura, challenged the readers of his blog to produce a piece of artwork from the same picture. You can see the results here. He said to "simplify". He showed us how he did it at the end of the challenge, here.

I don't think I simplified enough!

Sofft Tools

Here is a charcoal drawing I did using Sofft tools, charcoal, white charcoal, and PanPastels.

I originally saw this on one of David Kassan's videos and one of David Darrow's videos.
David Kassan has an excellent list of tools here.

My left hand is getting better at finer details but the Sofft tools and PanPastels helped me draw with broad strokes to block in the form.

Right Hand?

So, my right hand isn't responsive.....YET.... but...... my left hand is doing pretty well!

I begin my studio time with drawing lines...

and circles....

and things I have around.

Next time, I'll show you the charcoal drawing I did using the Sofft tools I noticed on David Kassan's video and David Darrow's video.

Portland Streetcar 2

I do love the Portland Streetcars. Their ray of color always makes the day less dreary.

I took this picture, a year and a half ago, while cruising around Portland, with a friend, looking for things to paint.

This painting is going to be in the Randy Higbee Gallery 6"x 6" show. The opening is December 3, with a Gala Artists' Reception, and it will go until December 23.

Shea Center

Here is the painting I finished for the auction at the Shea Center where my sister works.

"The Shea Center offers classes that focus on a broad range and combination of disabilities. These classes fall under the general term "therapeutic riding" but each class is a sophisticated program developed to address the needs of that small group."
