I  proposed (to offer or suggest....) to do Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Challenge by being aware of my current situation, (stroke) and agree to do 10 in 30.

Well......this is only #5. There are 8 days left, so I'm thinking, I may just make it to 6 or 7.....

I decided to participate in Leslie Saeta's "30 in 30 Challenge" for January, but mine will be "10 in 30". That's still good, right?

I take A LOT of pictures when we are visiting family down in Southern California.

The top one is in Avalon, Catalina, walking down the street from where my mom and dad used to live.

The other one is from the pier at Newport Beach at sunset. You can see the Dory Fishing Fleet  market on the bottom, right.

These pieces are at  Randy Higbee's show in Costa Mesa, opening December 8. Currently all art work is available online, here, but I would recommend you go to see (if possible!) all the hundreds of beautiful art work on display there!

BTW, they are framed. :)

Everybody Has Their Own "Stuff"

Two years ago today, I had a stroke. 

Bummer.

I am thankful for the fact that I don't get up every morning and say, "Really? This happened to me?" and wait until I can go to bed that evening.

I am thankful for the fact that I can talk and write. (that was really hard)

I am thankful for the fact that I don't have to use a wheelchair any more and I can walk, without my AFO. (brace on my right leg)

I am thankful for my right arm getting better.

I am getting better! Everyday. There are so many who don't get better.

What happened to me was shocking, and I got a little press (The Oregonian newspaper article on me) but EVERYBODY has their own "stuff" to deal with!

I want to thank my family, neighbors (who saved my life!), friends and "friends", and whoever else that has prayed for me, supported me, helped me through this tough time.

Thank you!

Here is my entry into the Daily Paintworks Challenge. This photo was taken by Carol Marine on her recent visit to Santa Cruz.

Last Saturday

I met with 5 art friends for brunch last Saturday. Carol Marine, Randall Tipton, Jo Reimer, Cathleen Rehfeld, and Celeste Bergin.  
We met at Randall and John's house, everyone brought food (which was awesome!), and we spent the time getting to know everyone and talking art. 

We got to see Randall's studio, several large paintings (acrylic and watercolor),  his drawers full of beautiful art, Jo brought her collage pieces and Cathleen brought two oil paintings to share, (they were all beautiful too!) and Celeste, Carol , and I ....well....forgot...or something..... :)

I learned so much from so many talented artists sharing.....I need to get out more!

I started these before my stroke. I got about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way done. I have since finished them. They are meant to be hung together with the longer one first. 

They are a combination of four pictures, anywhere you want them to be! Starbucks?

Here is a "quick" painting for Daily Paintworks of a scene that Carol Marine caught on camera on her visit to San Francisco. 

"Quick" for me because it only took me 4 hours and a size like this used to take me a whole week!  

Cityscapes Show

Donna and Roberta, the co-owners of Art On Broadway Gallery,  have encouraged me to have my first show since my stroke.They, and everybody else in the gallery is being so supportive of me! 

I am honored and a little apprehensive to do it. Maybe because my paintings are with my off hand? (my left hand)

Oh well!

The show is called "Cityscapes" and the opening in Saturday, August 11, from 6-9, and goes until September 1.

This month we will have demo on making torched glass beads by Carli Kruse. Carli makes beautiful jewelry with the glass beads she creates. Come and see how she does it, starting at 5:30pm. Also, we will be having another silent art auction. Many of our artists are putting up a few pieces of their work to be sold in auction.
